Mulliner marriage look up please.
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 10:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am searching for details of a marriage between Joseph Manning Mulliner and ??Ann Shaw?? about 1827 in Northampton.

They had two sons that I know of, namely, Thomas Shaw Mulliner born 1832, and Joseph Mulliner born 1829.
I really would like to find out for sure if Joseph Manning and Ann were the parents of the two boys.

Thomas was my great grandfather, and his father, as shown on his marriage certificate was Joseph Manning Mulliner.

I am hoping someone will be kind enough to help me here.

Cheers,
Dot.

And from the 1841 Census.

H.O. 107/814/12 District 10 Pg 3 Folio 5

Bull Head Lane, St Sepulchres, Northampton

Joseph Mulliner 35 CoachMaker Y
Joseph 12 Y
Thomas 7 Y

Also in Household
Martha Watts 35 F.S. Y

I guess that confirms it.

Hi, Sandy,
Many thanks for your help with this marriage.

So Joseph Manning Mulliner and Ann Shaw were the parents.

As Ann was not shown on the 1841 Census I am wondering if she had died.

Could I ask you to check on Joseph Manning's birth around 1807, and any details of Ann Shaw before the marriage?
I am curious to see if he is connected to the Mulliner family who were involved with building coaches for the Royal Mail in the late 1700s.  I see he is listed as a coachmaker on the Census.

Hopefully, this is not too cheeky of me!

Your help has been much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Dot.

Hi again Dot

Ann is harder to find as dying before the 1841 census there does not seem to
be a burial in a Church of England for her in Northampton Town.

Hopefully we may come up with some other clues.

Hi Dot

Whilst looking at the census again in case Ann Mulliner was elsewhere on census
night I noticed that there is another Mulliner noted whose son Francis is also
a Coach Builder.

Woodford Parish Church (nr Thrapston) By License

08 Apr 1822
Francis MULLINER of Northampton, bachelor to Jane MANTON otp, spinster
Witnesses: Joseph Manton and Mary Manton

This is a possible brother to Joseph also son of Francis and Mary?

This Francis dies and is buried in St Giles Church Northampton  Jan 11 1841
aged 52 and was previously residing at Bridge St.

On the 1841 Census there is the following.

H.O.107/ 814/2 District 3 Page 30 Folio 19
Bridge St

Jane Mulliner 40 Ind Y
Jane 15 Y
Francis 15 Coach Builder Y
Sarah Ann 10 Y
Ellen 8 Y
William 6 Y

And other folk.

Therefore if Francis father of Joseph and Francis was also a Coach Builder he may
have left a will which you would be able to e-mail the Northampton Record Office
and see if they have a copy. Also Francis the son also may have.

Hi, Sandy,
Thanks for all that info.
I think we are on the track of the family - though it is a very large one I think.  If Francis (m Jane Manton)  and Joseph (m Ann Shaw) are brothers there is quite an age difference.  But, having said that, my great grandfather, Thomas (son on Joseph) named a daughter Frances.  So it looks like a family name.
All the Mulliners seemed to be employed as coach builders!
Really appreciated,
Cheers,
Dot.

ps Thomas is listed as having 'independent means' on one of the census's.  He may have inherited enough to live on.
I shall try the will trail.
