Derbys Army Regiments
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 16:23 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone any idea, as to which army regiments would have recruited men, from around the Chesterfield area in the 1780's?  I think this would be around the time of the American War of Independence

Hi,
Not sure if you are researching Military History or looking for a specific person who
joined up in 1780's.

You can search on PRO site:-
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.htm

1. When page opens, select "Search the Archives", which can be seen on top row of page.

2.  A list appears, CLICK on The Catalogue (2nd item down)

3.  Next Page CLICK  "SEARCH THE CATALOGUE"  (large red item middle of page)

3.  A search box will open,

If searching for a person enter e.g.  "John Smith"  or just Smith in the box "word or phrase"
      If just interested in regiments enter   Chesterfield                       "  "      "       "     "    "
enter WO in  the box "Department or Series Code"

4.  Click Search - you will be presented with  pages of results.

Any problems, please come back.

Regards
