ALFORD -- Woolford
« on: Thursday 26 February 09 16:20 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying to retrieve information for some time on this couple.

Frederick Woolford married Amy Alford (or what I thought)..I've found a Marriage Index  that says he married an Alford but it's Ellen A Alford, December 1914.

Children listed:

Grace Woolford b. 1915
Edward Woolford b. 1918
Joyce Woolford b. 1918
Andrew Woolford b. 1921
Alice Mary Woolford b. February 13, 1922
Thomas Woolford b. February 1924
Elizabeth Woolford b. 1927

I was looking for a marriage certificate or something to confirm who "Amy" is.

Hello   :)

Welcome to Rootschat   ;D

Do you have the marriage certificate ?

If so, can you tell us her age and her father's name ?

We should then be able to find her on the census and confim what Wozzle has found  :)

Yes please.

Thank you for the welcome. My husband's grandma (kids great-grandma) just passed away this month. I had started this but had real trouble with finding the stuff in England. I have a 14 day free trial at ancestry gathering as much as I can. I'm in Canada and the exchange rate is very expensive.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've found the census information on Ancestry...grandma always referred to her mother as Amy so I searched for years and came up with nothing. If she's Ellen which seems logical at this point...I mean how many Alford's in exactly where they are from (Bradford on the Avon) would marry a Woolford.

She had also told me that Amy's father name was Isaac and that she was born around 1895ish....never could remember the exact date.

the one i posted was the daughter of isaac and ann.
so it looks as if this is a very good probability
1901
RG13/1934/53/10.
1891.
RG12/1605/48/5.
i see you have ancestry for free trial so will let you look for yourself
will see if i can go further back for you.

In retrospect that would have made no sense the birth because the "apparent" Frederick Woolford was born about 1884...so 1886 made more sense.

Isaac Alford married Q4. 1886 Bradford on Avon.  Vol 5a. Pg. 259
Ann Ellen Bailey on the page   ;)

You will see on the 1891 census that Ann's middle initial is E  ;)

1881
for her father isaac
RG11/2049/66/6.
1871.
RG10/1936/104/17
1861.
RG9/1306/106/9.
p.s. it looks like isaac was married twice first to a fanny goodfellow in 1863 then in 1886 to ann ellen bailey.
