Orpheus, thank you for that interesting information about Woodcote.

Jill  At least we now know that Woodcote and South Stoke are out, and as yoiu say, that leaves Checkendon, unless of course (perish the thought!) his parents took him to one of their home parishes for baptism ( Sonning or Cuddesdon) .

If necessary, I can always buy the Checkendon fiche from the OFHS, if I can find a reader somewhere.

Hi Carmela,

Lots of Rose baptisms in Sonning, but none later than 1811.

Funnily enough, same thing with Cuddesdon - quite a few Roses but none after 1811.

(above from Oxon FHS CDs)

HELP!!!

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

Jill,
Thanks for checking Cuddesdon and Sonning. I did not intend to send you off on a wild goose chase. All those Roses
in Cuddesdon are related. The family really lived in Wheatley,
but there was no church there until later in the 19th century,
so they attended the one in Cuddesdon.
Sonning was Charlotte's home. Her maiden name was Manners.

Thanks again,
Carmela

Hello Carmela,
Most interested to read your post because Henry and Charlotte Rose were my Great Great Grandparents. (George, whose baptism is discussed, ;) was my Great Grandfather)I have just visited Pyrton where they lived and Wheatley, where the churchyard contains a number of Rose graves.
I would be very interested to know who Henry's parents were in order to go back a further generation.
Thanks,

Moff

Hello Moff,
I am delighted that you found me. There are very few descendants of Henry and Charlotte to be found on any genealogy sites. I know only one other.

I can certainly help you with a couple more generations of Roses, plus a lot of information on the Manners and Casemore families. Also happy to share oral history, photos, etc.

I see that you are a new member of RC. In order to send or receive a PM (private message) you must first post 3 messages on RC boards. A reply to this one, plus one more will do it. After that we can use the PM system to  exchange email addresses and get touch directly.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Carmela,
Great to hear back from you so quickly!
Last week I visited Wheatley Church, Pyrton, Clare Hamlet and, most interestingly, Clare Hill Farm where William H Rose was the farmer and eventually head of the household after Charlotte's death in 1878.
The farm is derelict and due for demolition, so I get there just in time, but it still retains a tangible feeling of its history and even has the old water pump out back.
I will make a further post and look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Moff
