Did he have a middle name? There is a marriage record for a William John Kane/Alexandrina McLeod in Winnipeg, Manitoba - 14/11/1913 that is possible. You can search on the following link:
That's a different William. After finding some border crossing documents for Alexandrina which show they moved to California I found a Declaration of Intent for US citizenship which shows William John Kane was born in Ireland in 1889.
From looking at SP, the William Kane born in 1882 didn't have a middle name on his birth registration.
