CALDER, Stromness, Walls & Flotta
« on: Saturday 28 February 09 17:47 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the Calder family of Stromness, Walls & Flotta, Orkney Islands.  I descend from James Calder, who was born in Stromness on 10 Nov 1775.  He was employed by the Hudson's Bay Company, and remained in Canada, where he married a Native woman and had a large family.

His parents were John Calder and Jean Sandison.  They had the following children that I know of:

Alexander Calder, b. 6 Auf 1772
James Calder
Jean Calder, b. 16 Apr 1778
Marcus Calder, b. abt 1780 (He was also an employee of the Hudson's Bay Co. and remained in Canada, where he also married a native woman)
Isabella Calder, b. 5 Oct 1782

I would very much appreciate any additional information on this family, including:

any other children
dates of birth, marriage and/or death of the parents,
parents/grandparents/siblings ect. of the parents

Any other information on this family line would be appreciated.

I have a fair amount of data on their descendants in Manitoba, Canada, and am willing to share that data.

I went through that site, and could not find ANY of those specific people on it.  There are several references to Calder's, some notes posted by Calder's, but nothing I could find that mentioned any of these specific people.

I used their search feature, and looked at every Calder that came up.   Perhaps I am doing something wrong?

Hi again, click on cursiter.com, you will get the home page which gives you options. Click on Indices of Birth, Baptisms, Marriage. You should get an alphabetical list of names, scroll down to Calder and click on caldmartxt, you should find them there.

Thanks, I found the parents and two of the children's baptisms.  Unfortunately, there was nothing there that I didn't already have (which I posted above).

I am searching for information on the parents family lines, and any information on Alexander, Jean and Isabella's marriages, etc.

go on archive of Manitoba from a distance, it is the Metis National Council and you will find some of your Calder's there Most married Metis or Scotch Cree breed Indians and most ended up in Manitoba I go with the Calder's via the Gibsons and down the Tulloch route
