Hi Sonja

The 'Glandegla' would be Llandegla - to the east of Bryneglwys and North of Llangollen/Llantysilio.

Thanks Gadget

I wondered if you could help me
i have just been speaking for the first time to a gentleman on the phone who happens to be the nephew of my great grandparents  - related to the Morris and Lloyds.
at the grand age of 90 (next week!) he is as sharp as a knife.
He recollects Joseph Lloyd and Ellen (his grandparents)
i have phoned up Wrexham RO today looking for Ellen's birth certificate to no avail.
But he says ...  her full name was Mary Ellen!, but she called herself Ellen and so did the family.
She married from Rhos in 1890 at the parish church in Ruabon - her father was given as Evan Griffiths a collier. (her name was given as Ellen - )
This must be why i can't find her birth certificate  :-[
and also when you found her for me on the 1901 census her name was given as Mary!
i wondered if anyone out there... could go for a fishing session to see f you can help me get more details before i jump into hot water again and end up buying the wrong certificate?

Thanks for everything
Sonja
x

Hi

If she married in Ruabon, her marriage would be on the North Wales BMD. It's free to check:

I have a copy of her Marriage certificate - it's getting her "At home" that i am having difficulty with.. and her parents  :(
i only managed a trace of them once  - or i think so in 1871

Hi Sonja

Births in Llandegla would be registered in Ruthin - not Wrexham.  On freebmd and northwalesbmd I checked for Griffiths births in 1865 and 1866.

Freebmd has
Dec Q 1865  Ellen GRIFFITHS Ruthin (NWBMD has this birth registered Llanarmon yn Ial subdistrict which matches the Llandegla pob of the Ellen you have found on the 1871 census)
also there is
Dec Q 1866 Mary E GRIFFITHS Ruthin (NWbmd has this birth as a Mary Elizabeth registered in Llanrhaeadr yng Nghinmeirch)
