1870s Streets in Cardiff
« on: Sunday 01 March 09 22:50 GMT (UK) »
HI

I have an address on a birth cert  in 1873 of Augustus Street, St Mary, Glamorgan. I expected this to be in the Cardiff area but googling it gave me an Augustus Street in Pontypridd which is approx 17 miles away.

Does anyone know how  I could check to see if this is the same address?

Hi Fue
The birth certificate should give the district / subdistrict the certificate was issued in.

Cardiff registration district was formed in 1903 from a number of others including St Mary

Pontypridd district was formed in 1894.

If your certificate states St Mary then I believe this was what is now part of Cardiff registration district. I am wondering if it should read Augusta Street which was in Adamsdown Cardiff.

Just an idea

Hi Sue

Yes you are right the sub district is Cardiff, I just got worried when I could only find the street in Pontypridd (although I know of course that houses/streets could have been demolished through  time).

Adamstown also fits because this couple later had children in the Roath and Rumney areas which are both close to Adamsdown.

So thanks very much for putting me on the right track  :)
