Description of the population registers:
http://genealogy.about.com/library/authors/ucklaassen1d.htm

Also try looking here if you know which area you're looking for (there are some links to population registers online for certain parts of the country).

Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Are you looking for some leads on the Lemon family?

Haarlem is in Noord Holland.

Here's a great collection of online resources:

http://www.geneaknowhow.net/digi/resources.html

and the civil registrations are here:

http://www.genlias.nl/en/page0.jsp

You should be checking the Dutch Jewry databases.

Hi again Justin, Thanks for that

I had a look at the 51 census last night and found a 'Lamon' family! The head was a Solomon wife Maria of Amsterdam, It looks promising given that Louis and leah Dicks had a son Solomon.

I'll check those sites out now
Thanks yet again!  :D

Hello Penninah,

I dug up the following for you at some point from the online database of Dutch Jewry. I should have sent it on with my other notes.

Hartog Hirsch Meyer, b. 1755 in Bottenheijm, adopted the surname Lamoen in 1812 (Amsterdam)
Childre:
Meyer, b. 1797
Rijnte, b. 1798
Salomon Hartog Lamon, b. 1800, m. Matje Joel Heiligers, b. 1801, on 5 Sep 1823 in Amsterdam
Edele, b. 1804

Name also Limoenenman/Lamon/Lemon

Maybe this Salomon is the Solomon you found in the '51 census!!

Justin

Wow thats great!
Thanks again, you certainly know your way around the jewish bits, I am still learning!
That looks like a very good match, I will know for sure I guess when Leah's marriage cert comes through! But Solomon and Maria are the only possible I have come across so far.

Where and when did they marry then?

Justin

Ignore this - you must have already told me - was it Q3 1854 London?

Yes you are right, they married under Louis Dick and Leah Lemon, London Sep qtr 1854.
I am hoping the certificate comes this week but it may not be until next. I was told by a Jewish genealogy chap that there are papers to be had once I get the info from the cert. Something about things they had to sign to prove they were Jewish and the 2 relatives they had to use as witnesses.
