Mark THOMPSON (born about 1800) was one of seven brothers of Bechoe (Beagho) townland near Lisbellaw in Co.Fermanagh. The other six brothers all emmigrated to Canada or America. (No given names or dates of departure.) By 1833 Mark was farming at Killycloughey townland. In 1861 Mark was a witness when his only son William (born about 1828) married Grace HURST. This couple had children Elizabeth Jane, Mark (b.1864), Margaret Mabel, John Hurst, William, James, Annie Mary and George Thomas (my grandfather). William THOMPSON died in 1890 aged 62 at Killycloughey and is buried in Lisbellaw CoI churchyard. In 1906 Grace THOMPSON and son George joined the rest of the family who were all living in New South Wales, Australia.
When Mark (b.1864) visited Fermanagh in 1924 he was told by Mr Rutledge at Lisbellaw that "there had been an American serviceman (visiting during or after WWI) enquiring about the Thompson family". Would love to hear from anyone who is researching THOMPSON in Lisbellaw area. . . . Beth
