Lorimers of Craigellachie and Aberlour
« on: Friday 06 March 09 20:46 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know how I could get memorial inscriptions for Alexander Lorimer (d. Botriphnie 3 Jan 1935) and his wife Elizabeth Runcie (d. Edinburgh 17 Sep 1949).  Alexander was born in Botriphnie (3.9.1861) and Elizabeth in Boyndie (3.11.1873). The family narrative is that they are buried in Aberlour kirkyard but I have been unable to find an MI for them.

All help gratefully received.

On the Moray Libindx site there is a record for an Alexander Lorimer who died on 03 Jan 1935, he is buried in Aberlour, ref:Ab251. Also buried in the same grave is Elizabeth Murray who died on 17 Sep 1949 and their daughter Molly who died on 16 Aug 1958, see link below.

Yes, my mistake. Eliz Murray married Alex Lorimer. (Her mother was Elizabeth Runcie) Am I right that the NM numbers for Alex, Eliz, and Molly will get me newspaper death notices from Moray Libindx? Will the Ab 251 number get me a monumental inscription from the same source? I've got other death notices from them but never an MI. They're very efficient.

Thanks

They are very good and their website is brilliant, if only other counties would follow their lead.

From what I can see there are no newspaper articles or death notices for any of them, I'm not sure if you'll be able to get the MI from the same place, it doesn't hurt to ask though.  :D

Thanks, Lynn, for your response. I'll see if I can get the MI from Moray Libindx. Agree that they're well set-up. I've had much more difficulty in other counties.

Will the Ab 251 number get me a monumental inscription from the same source?

Yes and no.

If you go to the people search screen and just put Ab251 in the 'Headstone Ref' field and search, you will get any details LIBINDX holds about all the people listed on that stone.

You won't get the exact wording of the inscription, however, without contacting them, and even then it will be a standardised transcription which may differ slightly in wording from the actual stone.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
