Thanks for the suggestion - I hadn't ignored you.  I checked the Moray Heritage web site; they have Ardgye as being in Alves rather than Duffus - no Murray's born there.

Jen has pointed out that I have misread the Heritage Centre opening times, so I will try to find out from a local expert where Eliza was born; I'll let you all know.

If you are contacting the Heritage Services (  I like this bit from their site: Place names on maps have been extensively indexed), you might also want to enquire about kirk session minutes that may provide more details surrounding the birth and that baptism for Elizabeth. The Kirk members may have had more to say....!

I've been to the Moray Heritage Centre today.  Whilst they may have extensively indexed place names that were on maps, it appears that 'Armydykes' is not on any map!  That said, the people there - both working and carrying out there own research - were most helpful.  I had a look on the OPR for Duffus and the names detailed above all appear to refer to the same place - the Heritage Centre rekons that the 'Airndykes' is mis-transcribed; he intends to change it to 'Armydykes'.  He's still not sure where it is though!

I suspect that means that this thread has run its course.

They don't have the Kirk Session minutes at the Heritage centre - they are held in Edinburgh, so will have to wait another time.
