More blooming Jones's.
« on: Tuesday 10 March 09 03:56 GMT (UK) »
I've been putting this one off for ages but finally decided I had to do something about the gap in my tree.

This is one that my cousin researched when she visited Wales in 1965.
She has;
William JONES, born 8 December, 1839, Llansanffraid, Glan Conwy, Wales.
Mother Hanna ROBERT, father Robert JONES.

I found William in the Dec quarter, 1839, Conway, in FreeBMD and with help from a few people here we found a marriage for Ann ROBERTS & Robert JONES, June quarter, 1839, Conway.

Unfortunately I have no idea how to go back any further than this. I've tried IGI  ::) and Genuki and several other sites but nothing jumps out at me.
Deaths on FreeBDM don't help as they have no parent's names.

I would really like to have just one more generation to add to my Jones's.
The parents of Robert JONES and Ann/Hanna ROBERT would give me my 32 G-G-G-Grandparents.

Any help from the experts here would be most appreciated.

Leonie.

Hi hiraeth,
this is from a previous thread;
1841.
Cymera, Deunant, Llansaintffraid HO107/1403/20 folio 31 pg 6
Robert Jones 20 ag lab not born in county
Hannah 25
Mary 7
William 1
all born in county except where stated

I drag this one out and dust it off every so often.  ;D  One day I might make some progress.  ::)

I imagine he would still have been with his parents in 1851 but by 1861 I think he would have been in Liverpool and he migrated about 1865 to Australia.

Hi Leonie

This looks like this is the family from the 1841 census in 1851

HO107/2519/238/17

Tai-Isa, Llangwstennin, Caernarvonshire
Robert JONES, mar, age 33, born Caernarvonshire, Llandudno
Hannah JONES, mar, age 38, born Denbighshire, Llandrillo
Anne JONES, dau, age 9, scholar, born Denbighshire, Llansaintffraid
Thomas JONES, son, age 7, born Caernarvonshire, Llangwstennin
John JONES, son, age 5, born Caernarvonshire, Llangwstennin

Both Llandudno and Llandrillo are just over the hill from Llansanffraid.  Perhaps it would be a good idea to ask Paul to check for William’s baptism and a marriage in Llandrillo.  Don’t know if Llandudno’s registers are available?

So where is William in 1851?   I’ll have another look round.

This is a possibility for William in 1851

Deunant (where William was in 1841) is about one mile south east of Llansanffraid GC and about two miles north east of Eglwys-Fach/Eglwysbach.

Do you know what ship he emigrated on?  I'm curious to know how your relative made the connection from Oz all the way back to Llansanffraid Glan Conwy!

In 1965 when my cousin was just starting out, our grandmother was still alive. Nana had a good memory then and was able to give my cousin lots of information. They spent hours together. Unfortunately I was on the verge of marriage and all that jazz, not interested in family history.  :-\ Much to my regret.
Even my father had memories of his grandfather and was helpful as well.
The genealogist's lament, why didn't I talk to them when they were alive?

Looking at the 1861 Census, I'm wondering if the three 'young people' are grandchildren of the Owens's?
I know children went out to work at a very young age, but would they be more likely to be placed with relatives or close neighbours?
Mary JONES being a 'visitor' adds to this theory, don't you think?

Then the 1861 throws in an EVANS, neice,  ???  At least it gives me some more names to work with. ::)  and lots of new info.

Altho' I'm still no closer to finding the parents of Robert JONES and Hannah ROBERTS:-\
