Westonzoyland - MOUNTSTEVENS

I am looking for information on Mary Mountstevens, born I believe in Westonzoyland, in 1833.  She married Matthew Wilshire/Wilsher.  Her father's name on her marriage certificate is showing William Mounstevens, but I cannot find anymore information regarding her mother's name inc maiden name.  Any further ancestors on the Mountstevens side would be much appreciated - I'm stuck!

Mary Mountstevens' father William is shown as a "labourer" (marriage certificate dated 5 September 1852).

There is a Mountstevens family in Westonzoyland in 1841 and 1851, father William, brickmaker.

They have 6 children in 1861  -  no Mary;  however a daughter Mary Ann is home in 1851, age 18.

Is there anything else on the marriage certificate  - address, witnesses ?  which might be helpful ?

Dated 5 September 1852

Matthew Wilshire (bachelor) 26 years, Mary Ann Mountstevens (spinster) 19 years.  Matthew's occupation Tailor, Mary's occupation Labourer.

Father of Matthew was Thomas (occupation Jobber ??)
Father of Mary was William (occupation labourer)

Witnesses were James Mountstevens and Elizabeth Mountstevens (possibly Mary's parents or siblings?)

No address/residence shown on Marriage certificate, but place of marriage was the Register Office Bridgwater.

Well, given that she was Mary Ann Mountstevens,  I think this is her in 1851:

The family is indexed as Stevens, with William having a middle name Mount  and the enumerators dittos being under the last part of the name -

I've had a look for the other children after 1841:

Isaac is is logdings,  John is married to Emma and living in Bridgwater.

William is living with his brother Charles (not home in 1841)
Charles is married to Elizabeth  -  the other witness perhaps ?

Mark I cannot find at all;  now - given that I can't find Mary in 1841 either, and that Mark and Frederic are the same age in 1841, and that ?Frederic and Mary are the same age in 1851  -   I think it quite possible that Mark = Mary   

The 1841 image is clearly Mark and his age is in the male column.  However  -  errors were not unknown   -  I have personal experience of that - my grandad was on the 1851 as un-named female, having been born only 4 days before the census

Thanks for that - I don't think I would have worked that lot out !

Its confusing when censuses are 10 years apart, but then the ages do not differ by 10 years, ie William was 65 yrs old in 1851 and 60 years old in 1841?!

Perhaps I may be able to go back a bit further now.

Ages on census are notorious      There is often a difference of 2 or 3 years either way - in each direction -between censuses   

The ages on the 1841 were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest 5, but experience suggests that (a) this did not always happen and (b) they were somtimes rounded UP not down      This may be what happened to William
