I'm having trouble finding information on my grandfather Harold Gerlitz (born in Calgary) and his parents John and Sophia Gerlitz (born in Saratov Russia). Any help would be greatly appreciated

What year was your grandfather born?  There are quite a few Gerlitz in Calgary in the 1916 census.

he would have been born between 1915 and 1920, i'll let you know as soon as i can find out...

i couldn't find anything on him or  his parents using ancestory.com

I do know however that he has no middle name, and did serve in the military for part of WWII

Any known siblings?   Lots of Gerlitz families in Calgary through the years. Lived in the Bridgeland community.

Just an extra bit ...A Sophia Gerlitz died1925 and buried in the Burnsland cemetery in Calgary. A John in the same cemetery shows 1852-1927.  Any chance ???

I believe harold had brothers, henry and jack rings a bell?

All i really know about the parents, besides being born in Saratov, Russia, is that Sophia died, and John re-married a lady with the last name "Slunt"

From here you can ask for data or get copy of cemetery info.
If this is indeed Grandmother it would be great.

There's a lot of online information on Volga Germans from Saratov - let me know if you want more details and I'll try to find the sites I used a while back for my relatives thre.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Could this John George Gerlitz of Calgary be the father, still single in 1918? Lists father as having same name.
