The Public House you refer to is The Galway Arms which is on Bridgegate opposite West Retford Church.

Dear Kaycee,
Thank you for this information and sorry for the long delay in replying.
There are some words in the M. Certificate difficult to read. It mentions Galways Bar and the living quarters as 4 Galway ( Bros or Barnyard) or Yard, West Retford. Then Vinfold or Winfold Lane, Welham.

Yours etc.,  Newgent.

Hello Newgent

I've just spent an hour searching the 1901  :-\

I'm afraid that even with the father's name of Frank, we're no better off   :-\

The only Frank Gibson that I can see born aound 1893 with a father Frank is born and living in Cheshire  ::)  Frank the father is a joiner.

I cannot see a Frank or an Edward Gibson born in Nottingham, father named as Frank   :-\    I also looked for a William born Nottingham, father Frank, since one of the witnesses was William Gison and in case he was a brother.

I'm having a think - I'll come back later

As Frank appears to be a name particularly connected with the Gibson family and as there are a lot of them, I think I'll go back and try and find the original "Frank" and then, hopefully , work forward.

Hello Newgent  - sorry for not replying yesterday  :-\

If you are sure that your Frank Edward was born 1893 Retford, then sending for his birth certificate would be the best way forward  ;)

That will confirm his father's name - hopefully  ???

Information on marriage certificate may not be accurate :(

Hello Newgent,

It probably doesn't help much but I think the certificate probably says Galway Arms Yard ( I had relations living there in the 1891 census). There is a Pinfold Lane in Welham which is within the Parish of Clarborough. St Saviours Church is on what is now Moorgate/Welham Road Retford.

There is a photograph in the Bassetlaw Museum ( Retford) with a Frank Gibson featured.

Dear Kaycee,
Your help is very much appreciated. No matter how small the information, it is important. I very much regret not being more careful when I started family history interests in the early seventies. The photograph is extreemely helpful. I can see the resemblance to the Frank Gibson I knew in the seventies. I will be able to confirm within a few days if it is the same man.
Yours sincerely,   Newgent for Life.

Hello Newgent,

On the same site is a Gurnhill wedding photo dated 1925 Grove.

Grove is just a few miles from Welham.
