I am intrigued by something that has been pointed out to me, the young man,second right back row as you look at the picture was my grandfather's brother, indeed the only one from that side of the family to attend the wedding. It has been suggested that he is mixed race in appearance, and as my mother's two older sisters in particular the oldest were very dark skinned, with what might be termed "Afro hair", who also had very dark eyes, her daughter my first cousin has the frizzy hair, but green/blue eyes. The middle sister had blue eyes, but her hair was especially frizzy, my mother by contrast was fairer, but her hair was dark, went grey suddenly in her 80s!, her eyes were blue but she had one brown segment in the right eye. The family names concerned are Ayres and Cornwell. I am fairly sure that the dark skin is from my grandfather's side, though he himself was fairskinned I am told. The area is Bottisham /Lode. Cambridgeshire and the era is from the end of the 19th century back. Any ideas welcomed as to how I can establish whether I have african ancestry, and if so where did it come from?
