I'm very much a newbie to this.  I'm trying to locate members of the Storey family who lived in the village of Birr in County Offaly in Ireland.  They used to work for the Ross and Parsons family many years ago.   Unfortunately I have very limited information to go on.  Could anyone advise me how to start please.

Thanks

what timeframe did the Storey  family live in Birr ?

Full Irish Civil records began in 1864, and non-catholic marriage registration started in 1845,  before these dates you will probably need to try to locate Parish Records.

Birr was known as Parsontown, and Offaly was known as King's County.

Thanks very much for the tip Shane.  I think the family would be there around 1900 or so, so I'll try some parish records.

Cheers
Linda

a few Storey civil records from familysearch (http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable) to start you off...

Name: Mary Storey
Reg district: Parsonstown
type: Marriage
year: Oct - Dec 1878
Vol : 3 / page: 469

Name: Sarah Storey
Reg district: Parsonstown
type:   Marriage
year: 1866
Volume: 13 / page: 471

Name: Sarah Catherine Storey
Reg district: Mountmellick
Record type: Death
year: Oct - Dec 1924
Age: 61  (est birth : 1863)
Volume: 3 / page: 311

Parsonstown is the registration district for Birr

You can order research certs from the GRO (www.groireland.ie) using the reference details.

There are also Storey records in the Mountmellick (Co. Laois) area - which is not to far from Birr.

seanmac has a thread on this forum (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,343749.0.html) where he is offering to lookup some 1901 and 1911 census extract for Birr town, might be worth posting the details of the Storey family there.

edit : I am beginning to wonder with the mention of the Parson and Ross families if you meant to say 1800...

Hi Worbord & welcome to RC,I don't know if you already know this but the Parsons were the family that owned Birr castle they were the Earl & Countess of Ross, this maybe who they were working for at the time.If you google Birr castle there is a really good info site all about the castle & it's history it would give you a feel off the place, regards Nipy
