Hi there,
I'm researching this person, Thomas Corbett Davies who was my Grandfather, born in Knighton, and lived most of his life in Llanwrtyd Wells, Breconshire, I have census records for 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 for him, but I can't pin down his DOB, or his true Parent's, he was born in Knighton, Radnorshire approx 1841-42, Family legend is that he was brought up in "The Narrow's", and on his Death Certificate, his Father's occupation is "Shoemaker".
I have a Birth Cert for two candidates, 1st, Thomas Corbett, DOB 1841, on 26 Apr at Penygraig, llanfair, (I'm guessing this is in the area of Knighton), but only his Mother's name, Catherine Corbett appears on it, I can't be certain its him.
secondly, the most credible, is an 1861 Census in which he is aged 19, living in Wellington Street, Knighton, (is this Street in the "Narrow"s?) with his Father, Thomas. C. Davies, (a Rural Postman), Mother Ann, and two sister's Eliza 17 and Harriet 13, Thomas junior's occupation is described as Butcher.
Family legend from my late Mother has it that he was related to "Gentleman Jim Corbett" the Pugilist... did "Gentleman Jim" come from the Knighton area?
He married twice, first to Esther Morris at Llangammarch, Breconshire, on Nov 8, 1867, and then to Ruth Williams (my Grandmother) in Llanwrtyd Wells
He died, on 23 Apr 1918, he was Registrar and Councillor for the area, and had a Butcher's shop in the Village, so I'd have thought he would have been well documented, but I've found only the Census returns and Birth Certs that I can't confirm.
I have an Obit published in the Breconshire & Radnor Gazette ( I think thats the name of it... anyone know its true name?) but its only a snippet and there's no date on it.
Can anyone help me, I'd be obliged if someone could.
