I have just stumbled across this thread and think that it is amazing how quickly you have all come together to make all those connections. Very interesting stuff. My Father, Grandfather etc are Jerretts from Brigus and even though I am quite familiar with that end of the tree being able to trace the name back to England is very exciting.

Do any of you have information on the name earlier than the 1800s?

Hi DJerrett

Welcome to Rootschat :)

Great to hear from you.   I have Jerretts going back to circa 1630, originating in a village in Devon, England, called Sandford.   The eldest brother of my husband's 2xg grandfather was James Jerrett who was first married to Mary Ann Churchill.   Their two sons George Churchill Jerrett and William Henry Jerrett emigrated to Brigus.   My guess is that you are descended from one of them!

As a matter of interest, were you ever a chief flying instructor for a flying club in Nova Scotia?

Very much looking forward to hearing from you :)

hehe, just jealous... and what luck that you'd run into two descendants already!

Brilliant stumble, I'd say DJerrett...Joan can take you well back and you can fill in any holes. Please let us know if anything has proven to be bogus on this thread...altho I believe we did quite well....
Big welcome to rootschat...have fun! J.J.

Ahh I thought that you might have been the Sam and Joan that I met back then. I often thought it was such a shame that I didn't get you two out flying that day. I did however pass along a letter from you to my Great Uncles in brigus who I thought more knowledgeable then I was. Have they responded? My g grandfather was Ernest and his father was George.as far as I know.

If you need anything at all from that end I'd be happy to forward you anything I have.

Hello JJ

It was very lucky of me to find this thread! I do feel a little bad about coming in so late and having little to offer, but hats off to yourself, samnjoan, and everyone for putting this all together.

David

Hi JJ

Good to hear from you again :)

I wouldn't have got this far without people like you ;D

This has been the most fantastic thread.   It goes cold for quite a while and then it comes back to life with fantastic information.   So far it has found one third cousin and two third cousins once removed for my husband ;D

Hi DJerrett

Great News ;D    We were sorry we couldn't fly that day too, but there's no controlling the weather and we did meet up with you ;D

No, I heard nothing from your Great Uncles in Brigus, but not to worry perhaps you can fill me in a bit.

Was your 2xg Grandfather George Churchill Jerrett b1835 in Morchard Bishop, Devon, who was married 24.04.1860 in Exeter to Charlotte Prowse ???   And was your Grandfather Ernest Victor Jerrett b28.04.1901 in Brigus, married to Ruth Michelin ???

I'm just trying to place you in the family.

I'll send you a pm with some other information.

Hello, :)

Yes your information is perfect.
CAJ is right. I cannot confirm his dob yet, but I can confirm EVJ and his wife Ruth. She was one of several over his life. EVJ is my Great Grandfather. I do know that the family did own ships, and if anyone remembers I will get you the names.

I sent you a PM as well

David

Hi David

Thanks for your PM, I will email you with some of the family history.

I'm beginning to get the picture as to where you fit in, thanks for that.
