Inquest look up - death Ware 1866
« on: Wednesday 18 March 09 15:13 GMT (UK) »
I have just received the death cert for my 2 x great uncle Charles Page who died in Ware on 10 Oct 1866 - he shot himself - just 38 yrs of age - inquest was held on  day of his death - 10 Oct 1866 - as Charles came from a prominent brewing family I am sure a newspaper would have carried details of this - but as I live in Ireland it is a tad far for me to go to HALS.

The coroner was Thomas Sworden (at least that's what it looks like) - and death was not registered until 17 Dec 1866 - seems a long gap - Charles is buried in Ware Town Cemetery and I have seen his grave.

Is there anyone who could see if his death was reported in a paper of the time.

Yvonne

Hi Yvonne,

I found quite a detailed account of the event in the Hertford Mercury of 13 October 1866.     Watch out for a PM.
