*COMPLETED* NANCARROW family in Redruth
« on: Thursday 19 March 09 04:10 GMT (UK) »
Edward NANCARROW  b. ?  c. 21 Apr 1799  Redruth - parents John & Elizabeth WEBBER

married 28 Mar 1824  Illogan (Anne MORE)

Ann MOORE  b. ?  c. 12 Dec 1802 Redruth - parents Thomas & Jennifer ?

Children (6):

1. John  b. ?  c. 25 Dec 1824  Redruth  - The IGI entry has his death on 1 Oct 1826.

A John NANCARROW died on 3 May 1855  Ballarat, Vic., Aust. - age 31 born Cornwall - father Edward  mother ?

I can't find a second John with father Edward born in Cornwall in 1824.

John married Jane MATTHEWS  where ? and when?

A daughter Mary Jane was born about 1849  where ?

I can't find the marriage or a birth for Mary Jane in England or Australia and I can't find John alone or with spouse and child on any shipping record.

A son, John, was born in 1855 and died in 1855 in Ballarat, Vic., Aust. parents listed as John NANCARROW and Jane MATTHEWS.

There is a death registration in 1878 in Victoria for a Jane TAIT age 46, born Cornwall 1832 - father Benjamin MATTHEWS and mother Jane.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Fred,

There is a John NANCARROW was buried 1 Oct 1826 Redruth aged 1 year  :'( (Full entry may list father) -  but John NANCARROW aged 15 is in Redruth presumably with Father Edward in 1841, aged 15. Cornwall Census is free Online

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,144624.0.html

I see John and Jane were in SA where they had three children

Sophy NANCARROW born 6 Jun 1850 Reedy Creek Dist Ade 3 74
Sophy NANGARRON died 15 Apr 1852 Adelaide Dist Ade 2 133 aged 2 parents not recorded
John Henry NANCARRAH born 20 Mar 1852 North Adelaide Dist Ade 4 3
John Henry NANCARROW died 14 Dec 1852 Not Recorded res Adelaide Dist Ade 2 169 aged 1 year father John
John Henry NANCARROW born 12 Oct 1853 North Adelaide Dist Ade 4 227 - it looks like they went to Vic about then as
John Henry NANCARROW died Victoria 1854/6254 aged 1 father John mother unknown

then I see the birth and death of the son John in Ballarat along with Dad John's death - father Edward as you mention.

John and Jane may have arrived in SA unmarried on separate ships in 1847

http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/1847Aboukir.htm

Alas no sign of a marriage or a birth for Mary Jane but this is very early in our history  :'(

1832 strikes me as a little late for her Jane's birth

Cheers Kris  :)

Hello Pam,

Thank you very much. That is the family. Of the children I know John, Thomas and Eliza ended up in Victoria. Spouse Ann died in 1839:

Deaths Sep 1839
Nancarrow  Ann    Redruth   9   135

I have this death too:

Deaths Dec 1842
Nancarrow  Mary Ann      Redruth    9   229

I have no information about Edward (actually 2nd one - first died young) apart from c. 9 Aug 1837  Redruth. I think father and son Edward both died before the 1851 census.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Kris,

Thank you very much. Now that is interesting. I knew nothing of a possible South Australian connection. I thought 1847 was not too early for SA. I know I had trouble with an 1842 event.

It looks like Mary Jane married a John FERGUSON in 1874 in Victoria. I do not have the death of either of them.

Re Jane (nee MATTHEWS) there is a marriage in Victoria (I don't know if she is listed as MATTHEWS or NANCARROW) in 1855 to a John PENHALL and they had 4 children. He died in 1864 in Ballarat  - born Cornwall aged 31.

Then there are two children with father David TAIT - this is getting very muddy - and then the death reg I mentioned of a Jane TAIT (nee MATTHEWS) but no sign of a marriage to David.

Regards,

fred2

Hi Fred,

It looks like Jane NANCARROW married straight away to John PENHALL 1855/3779 Ballarat Vic

4 Children in Ballarat to John Nancarrow and Jane Matthews

Thomas Penhall 1856/12155
John Penhall 1856/12156
Sophia Penhall 1858/6404
Michael Groves Penhall 1860/13602

Death John PENHALL age 31 father Thomas mother Jane born Cornwall died Vic 1864/2821

There are then 2 births listed in Ballarat

David John TAIT 1865/6682 parents David TAIT and Jane MATTHEWS
James TAIT 1867/6358 parents David TAIT and Jane MATTHEWS

Jane PENHALL = Daniel TAIT 1878/1231 Ballarat  (David and Daniel can look alike)

Jane died 1878/287 aged 46 born Cornwall parents Benjam Matthews and Jane Matthews

I see you are have only been with RootsChat a few days so a big welcome to you also.  ;D

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi Fred,

There are some births to John Ferguson and Mary Jane Nancarrow in Vic

Alexander FEREGUSON Nerring 1874/8531
John FERGUSON Ballarat 1876/6887
John FERGUSON Numu 1879/18195

Suggest you try the Australia Board for a death for her. Others can provide a far more comprehensive search of Vic records than I am able to provide. Nothing in SA for this family.

Also worth asking on the Australia Board for any personals for the marriage of John and Jane and birth of Mary Jane. You never know something may be listed. As I said these events are not listed in the BMD indexes. Also no mention in BISA.

Cheers Kris  :)

Fred,

Been rather sidetracked here from the Cornwall side of this, but do need more information.

I have had no luck with a Jane MATTHEWS with parents Benjamin and Jane, and nothing showing on the 1841 census. I wonder what information she provided herself at the time of her Vic marriages rather than what Someone else provided at time of her death........Kris  :)
