Townsends, Grimsby
« on: Friday 20 March 09 02:57 GMT (UK) »
Looking for info on Irish-born Townsend family who settled around Grimsby maybe in the 1920s.

Arthur (b 28/11/1878 Laois, Ireland) in Royal Dublin Fusiliers married Sarah Elizabeth Pielow in India 1911.
Children Arthur William b 1912 India and Deborah Sybil b 1916 Cork, Ireland, died 2001  Lincolnshire.

Possible Arthur junior was in RAF during WW2 and possibly married Ivy?

Any info welcome.
Many thanks
David

David,

There is an Ivy Townsend buried in Cleethorpes Cemetery, born 1912,

ff.T42   Townsend   Ivy   66   died 14 Mar 1978   buried 22 Mar 1978   31178   Cleethorpes   Retired Cleaner. Died Scartho Hosp.

No other details-can't find any Arthur at all.

Tom

Thanks Tom. That sounds like her; I'll do some more checking.
Isyour info from the local newspaper - I wondered where "retired cleaner" came from.
I'm trying to find out if ARthur died during WW2, so he mightn't be buried in England.
David.

David,

I have checked the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Rolls of Honour for World War 2 and he is not on either of them;those Rolls of Honour are in my possession and I have researched and photographed them.

Yes think that report is from a newspaper though cant say which.
