Hi Tazzie and Puffcat,
It is my grt grt grandfather William Holloway.
There are a couple of inconsistencies over the years as expected - however the one constant is place of birth - Adforton, where he lived from birth until mid 1860's - 20 odd years before moving to Bucknell down the road.
1893 Death certificate - 28 May 1893 states is age as 47 - birth would be 1846
1891 census - in Bucknell has him as 48yrs - birth would be 1843
1881 census - Bucknell has him as 69! - looking closer at original census looks more like 39 - 1842
1871 census - Adforton has him as 31- birth 1840
1866 Marriage certificate - Parish of Clun - notes him as full age
1861 census - Adforton has him as 21 yrs - birth 1840
1851 Census - Adforton has him as 12yrs - birth 1839
1841 Census - questionable due to incorrect spelling Hawlway but still has him at 2yrs - birth 1839
I have purchased sibling birth certificates and they were both born in Adforton.
Eliza Holloway - 21 Oct 1841 - noted parents as William Holloway and Mary (No maiden name given).
George Holloway - 28 Sep 1847 - no father noted - mother Ann Holloway (1851 census states mother as Mary)
There is a William Holloway born in 1840 in Bromyard - this is not him as GRO advised father not William Holloway.
This is why I think I need to purchase Parish records to try and locate him. However, this I have never done before and not sure who to approach. Puffcat you advised Adforton births would now be at Leomister - but who would hold the records - Council, Church not sure who to approach - any thoughts/advice would be well received. I live in Australia, and so have no way of getting there and do not know the area except via Google Earth!!
Many thanks for your time.
Cheers
Jayne
