 ;D ;D ;D

Don't worry Paulene...there may be new int on these x2 pages.... ;) ;) ;)

Some of it is just repeat stuff...But...

OC (Officer Commanding) 19th something or other, thence to OC 47 GH....

Now there is an awful lot of stuff that has a "ghost" image on the page.....Whether it is pencil stuff that has been erased, or stuff we just can't make out...It could even have leeched through from another record...

I still cannot see any sign of an injury or "neurasthenia" or any other old name for shell shock on there...

It may be that it is in the ghost bits....I may be able to make out "leg" somewhere, but nothing deffo....

Therefore I cannot confirm nor with absolute certainty deny shell shock with this chap, based on what we have in front of us.
One more charge and then be dumb,

May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Whoops!  :-[
Yes, I did read it but I got a few messages on msn at the same time, and obviously didn't concentrate - sorry.
So it is GH - general hospital - but he went there to work.
Nice to know here he went - in France.

And there's me thinking, based on what I have been told by women (of course!!) that it is only women who can multitask....PAH!! ::) ::) ::)

I can run at least x3 conversations on MSN and Facebook, and still do all this...whilst catching up with Heroes on the Sky+....Oh and I'm answering a load of phone calls as well... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nah nah, ne nah nah :P :P :P :P :P

There is of course no reason why he did not become after the war, a "Service Patient"....

Do a RC search on me with "PTSD" and "Service Patient" to get some more int on this, and a recommendation for a rather excellent book..."Forgotten Lunatics Of The Great War"

I have posted on it several times... ;) ;D And there is a bit of int out there!!

Thanks, scrimnet - I will search for that now.

You're right I do need to concentrate better, I admit it ;D
Now, this is digressing, and I don't want to divert you away from this wonderful job you are doing here) but this is in an interesting one, if you're bored one day, scrimnet.

Oh Thomas.  :(

"Statement as to Disabliity" form follows the others has his main details, but there's a bit to sign if all's ok which is left blank, so I guess he did claim some disability? I don't know.

When I asked for help with translation I thought it would be mainly places and dates, the detail you've both been able to help with is amazing, so thank you.

Amazing but sad! I imagine any hospital records will be subject to the 100yrs. If I can find his death cert may give a clue, have searched up to 1960 so far but nothing definite.
Edit - just seen your posts, will do the search.

And nah nah nah nah nah, I'm on me laptop, having a fairly useless conversation and watching blackadder ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!  ;)

Waite, Marchant, Nash, Goddard, Pocock, Hiles, Switzer, Larondie, Harris, Radford, Monger, Harper, Harris, Sixsmith, Fitzgerald.

So, Rachel, do you feel you've got more of a picture now as to what happened - do you think it was Thomas that ended up in the hospital?
I think you can still apply to see the hospital records, even with the 100 years ruling, as long as you can prove you are a relative.

Actually even if not.... ;)

The amount of records searched and found in the the book I mentioned are huge and wide ranging....

It may be worth getting the book from your local library, and following Peter Barham's leads...

There are no definitive PRO numbers, but an awful lot around TNA PRO PIN 15/etc, and also the records of the hospitals...But a trawl through the book would be best....
