Hello Chainsaw
Am I right in thinking you have searched the parish registers for Middlezoy?
I can see the marriage in the IGI in 1774 also a later marriage for a Thomas Hucker 22nd Nov 1802 to Ann Baker.

There are some transcriptions for Middlezoy online

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ian.sage/PR/pr_index.html

I am not sure if these are complete. I can see Thomas and Susannah's children detailed.

It is possible Thomas came from another parish eg Westonzoyland or the priest was sloppy in completing the registers or lost bits of them. Around this period many registers are in a chaotic and incomplete state.

The website given has other Somerset registers on them. Worth a look if you haven't done so already.

Also marriage entries did not contain much info in 18th century as a rule but it varied from place to place.

If you haven't looked at the registers yourself this maybe a starting point- or try a lookup through Bridgwater library- from memory I am sure they have the filch for the parishes around Middlezoy area.

Good luck-

Thanks Sue, I have looked at the Middlezoy PR, but typical of my luck there is

a big gap right where I might expect to find him. I am pretty sure that he was of

Middlezoy, the family were well established in that area, but I just cannot seem

to find any conclusive evidence as to who were his parents.

I know the problem too well- I have too family lines from around this time that run dry of information in the registers in different parts of the country though.

Its hard to know what resources could help- I do not know if Somerset Archives in Taunton could offer up some suggestions - such as parish chest items eg Poor law relief, wills (unlikely I know) quarter sessions or bastardy bonds. The trouble is the average law abiding Ag Lab didn't really appear much in print.

It may be worth just checking with them - that the Middlezoy registers have been completely filmed onto microfilch! Most of that work was done 30 years ago and things have moved on - perhaps they could check out the Orginal registers for you!

Sorry can't offer more help- only tea and sympathy
