I am looking for any information regarding the mother of Frederick William Gathercole.My family come from essex and my great grandmother was a maid in a big house.She had an illegitimate son(my grandfather-frederick william gathercole)by the son of the Lord -he was registered i believe in her maiden name(gathercole)she was married hastily to a man called Coomber
can anyone help

The Only Coomber/Gathercole Marriage i can see is the

GEORGE HENRY COOMBER/EMILY ELIZA GATHERCOLE one in 1898 (Orsett) is that the one?


and a birth of FREDERICK GATHERCOLE in 1897 (Orsett)

On the 1911 Census

George Coomber
Emily Coomber
Edith Coomber
(Alfred James died in 1903)

are living in Gravesend

1901 Census

Frederick Gathercole is living with (Parents ?)

George Gathercole and Laura Gathercole 

They must have took him on has their own.

1911 Census

Frederick is still living in Orsett
George is still alive living in Orsett
Laura died in 1910.

frederick william was born in 1897 in orsett i think-registered under his mothers maiden name of gathercole-
orsett seems correct-there was a lord who lived there

woody-hi-wow you seem to have cracked it for me-all the info dates places etc seem to add up.Thank you so much.My father was Alfred James as well so im hoping it was a family name.Im anxious to find out as much as i can about my grandfather Frederick william-especially in what stately home his mother worked as a maid,at least now i have something to go on
