Parish Poor law records
« on: Friday 27 March 09 03:00 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone tell me about parish poor law records.  I have John Fraser dying in 1834 just before the birth of his son in Methven.  He left his widow Janet Muir and a baby daughter Janet.  His widow received relief from the parish in Methven and, up until 1843 the Methven parish was reimbursed by the parish in Forteviot. In the 1841 census, Janet Fraser indicates that she was not born in the county so i'm assuming that her deceased husband was probably from Forteviot.  My question is this - would the Forteviot parish be likely to continue these payments if the Fraser family were only temporary residents in Forteviot or would the family have to be long term residents for them to do so?  Any hints or help would be appreciated.  Many thanks in advance.
