Another Jones
« on: Saturday 28 March 09 21:51 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find the birth or baptism of Joseph Jones. According to the 1881 census he was 40 making it 1841ish when he was born in Llandyrnog. I think I found him on the 1861 census where it says he is 21 but born in Newmarket, on same census he is living with his "mother" aged (wait for it ) 72 and she was born in Llandyrnog.
He married Emma Hughes in 1864 in St. George, St. Asaph but I can't find either of them on the 1871 census and on the 1881 census it looks like he has remarried to a Mary and living in Dyserth.
I'm so confused, can anyone help please

Emy    :)

Hi Emy - welcome to rootschat :)

The first rule when hunting Joneses is DO NOT PANIC ;D ;D

Do you have the marriage certificate of Emma Hughes & Joseph?  If so what were their ages?

Also what is his mother's name?

Hi Hiraeth,

Thanks for replying.
Yes I have the marriage certificate for Joseph and Emma, Joseph was 24 and Emma was 21.
Joseph's father was Robert, occupation Miner and Emma's father was William, Occupation Laborer.
I don't have Joseph's mother's name and that is why I need his birth certificate to try and confirm these names and dates

Any help would be appreciated

Emy

Heather, the name that was on the 1861 census for Joseph's mother was Margaret, but I'm not sure if she is his mother when you see the age. She is 72 and Joseph was 21.

I also have a copy of an 1871 census for Aberwheeler with a Margaret Jones as Head aged 85 born Llandyrnog and it looks like Joseph's son Robert Jones aged 3 born in Newmarket and it says he is her grandson. (I have his birth certificate born Oct 23rd 1867 born in Newmarket Father Joseph and mother Emma Hughes.

Sorry to confuse you

Emy

I didn't have that Heather thanks, it looks like it could be the right Emma.
Hope I can find Joseph's birth certificate as quick so I can solve who his mother was.

Emy

I did find that census Heather and the age of Joseph looks right. I'm such a doubting Thomas. I just wish they would make up their mind where they were born and how old they were. Would you say they were the same family :-\
