Which Message Board
« on: Thursday 17 February 05 23:13 GMT (UK) »
My mother visited Singapore a few years ago and came back with photographs of a head stone for J. O'Dea (her maiden name was O'Dea and she was struck by the coincidence of finding that particular headstone!).  Information on the headstone as follows:

Australian Imperial Forces
NX77958 Private J O'Dea
2/20 Infantry Battallion
17th March 1942   Age 29

Do you think anyone would be interested in this?  If so which message board should I use?

Cheers

Hiya,

Just to let you know, I posted the message below on the O'Dea board and Australian board on Genforum.  I felt Private J. O'Dea looked lonely here on his own I so took the liberty of finding other O'Deas to keep him company.

I spotted a message about this Australian soldier on a Rootschat thread.
I notice there are several messages about Australian O'Deas posted here.
I hope this helps someone fill a gap in their tree.

Christopher,

We find this extremely arrogant of you.

you do not have the right to put other people's information on other boards
of your choosing, simply because you think it is a good idea.

It is very kind and helpful of you to point out these other possibilities,
but it is, and must always be, the decision of the original poster
to decide whether or not to use them.

Hiya Bob,

Thanks for your comments.

May I assume then that when someone finds a useful piece of information on another site that they should get the permission of the person who posted that information. The item came under the heading unwanted. If it had been wanted it would have been posted elsewhere. It's a bit like throwing something in a skip. Someone walks past and says "Oh that's useful" and takes it away to use for another purpose. There was no need for me to inform you of my action. It seems to me honesty is an utter waste of time.

In future I'll just point out as you suggest.

Best Wishes, Christopher

Hi Jax,

As James O'Dea was born in Newcastle NSW and he enlisted at Paddington NSW (source; www..ww2roll.gov.au ) maybe it could be placed in the "Emigrants to Australia" board where it maybe seen by someone in the Newcastle area. Long shot I know but one never knows.

As Casalguidi has suggested maybe one of the mods  will move it across to the appropriate board.
