Roche/Raoch/Roache - Doneraile Co Cork
« on: Tuesday 31 March 09 04:13 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I am trying to trace the birth/baptism of one James Roach who was transported to Australia c 1824. The details on his death certificate show that he would have been born c1808 in Doneraile. His parents were shown as Thomas Roach and Julia Mellon. He died in Wollongong NSW, Australia on 21/07/1873 aged 66 years. His marriage and death certificates have his name spelt as Roach and all his children were registered the same way.
I have narrowed down 11 Baptisms in Co Cork for James ROCHE from 1806 to 1812 but as I am looking for him for an elderly lady who lives here, I don't want to run up a big bill on the off chance that one of these is her James.

If it is at all possible for someone to look up RC Baptism records for this period in the Doneraile area and match the reords to the parents I would be most grateful.

Also if anyone has access to court records for the early 1800's I would love to know how I could access the information from them. The trouble is that there were at least 10 James Roches' (various spellings), who were transported to Australia in the early 1800's, at least 5 of whom were from County Cork, so it is making it very difficult to try and pin down which one belongs to dear old Doreen.

I've had some hard nuts to crack in my own family and searching that I have done for friends before this, but I think James Roach might be taking the cake so any help that anyone could give me would be most greatfully recieved.

Regards,
Tissy ???(We really should have a pulling out the hair icon!)
