Help to find Harriett please
« on: Tuesday 31 March 09 23:30 BST (UK) »
I have Charles Edwards b 1832 in S Wales who moves to Essex between 1861 and 1864 when his first child Alice was born in West Ham.

He married Harriett. The most likely person from the BMD seems to be Harriett Greengrass.
This wedding took place in Islington.Vol1b p446 1864

They live in Plaistow Marsh area and have other children Elizabeth,George,Herbert,Henry

The census all record her as from Terling/Terlingoy/Thornley?? Essex with a year of birth 1843/4.

The only Harriett Greengrass I can find a birth for at around the same time is in 1846 in Dover.
This seems a bit tenuous and she would have been very young to have been widowed and Greengrass a married name.

Theres nothing else I can pinpoint in the census before 1871 when she appears as Harriett Edwards

I would be grateful for any suggestions anyone can make please to help crack this for me

Ooh that sounds really promising. Solomon Siggers lived with them over a couple of census returns.

I think Alice was a bit of human error on the part of the enumerator - possible confusion with the eldest daughter

I'm pretty certain it is the marriage

FreeBMD
Charles Edwards
Mar qtr 1863
Lewisham
1d 837

there are 2 males and 1 female on page (Harriett wouldn't be included as her entry was difficult to read(supposedly)

Would you like me to go back on census for harriett??
