OK here goes...

George William went to India at some stage of his life. when or where in India I don't know that yet.

He married a lady by the name of Laura Lucille in India. no marriage certificate.

They have a son by the name of Arthur Ernest Robinson born on 13th January 1882 in Madras in India.

does this help at all ?

Regards.....
Arthur..........

So how did you know GW was born Dec 1852 in Hagglestone, in order to go for that birth cert? Where did that info about his birth year and place come from?

The son Arthur Ernest, born 1882 in Madras - did he spend his whole life in India? Where/when did he marry and have children? was that in India or back in England?

(1901 census has 2 Arthur Robinsons born 1882 in India, but neither have parents George and Laura. Just shows how many Robinsons there are around)

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hi Lizdb,

I have George William's birth certificate, given to me by my late mother.

Arthur Ernest was born in a place called GOHATTI, ASSAM, INDIA.
He died in INDIA on 12th July 1939 in a place called Bangalore.

Married Nancy Margaret Kohlhoff on 24th April 1905 in a place called Trichur, INDIA.
Nancy was born on 21st March 1886 in Trichur, INDIA.
She died on 24th July 1969 here in England.

They had seven children, Denzil, Dolly, Gladys, Kenneth, Noreen, Trevor and Laura Annie.

Kenneth or Kenny as he was known was my dad.

Thank you !!!!!!!

Ok - so there will be no English records for Arthur then.

And we dont know about GW - if he went to India as a small child with his parents we are scuppered on him too!

BUT - as long as the birth cert that your late mother gave you for GW is the correct one, and if it is an original and not one someone sent for at a later date on a whim, then there is no reason to doubt it, then that is our ONLY definite starting point.

So we need to glean all the info we can from that!

So far we have -
date : 26/12/52
place: 27 Margaret Street Haggerstone East Shoreditch
father: George Robinson
occupation: cab driver
mother : MAry Robinson nee Freeman

Is there anything (anything at all!) else on the cert?

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Lizdb....

Place should read.........7 Margaret Street, Haggerstone East Shoreditch.

The Birth Certificate is genuine.

Is there a way to check the UK Emmigration records to try and determine when GW left for INDIA.?

Some subscription sites have some outgoing passenger lists - but I fear with a name like Robinson and no dates it will be tricky to pinpoint him. Sorry havent got access to them myself.
I'm sure there was a thread somewhere on Rootschat with a link to a site with a bit of India info, but I cant really remember, might be worth a hunt around.

Meanwhile I would like oo find 7 Margaret Street in 1851, just under 2 yrs before GW was born there, in case that holds any clues....

I have now found 7 Margaret Street in 1851

SOo still no clues - except that GW's parents moved to that address after 1851 census and before Dec 1852 ....
