As for George Robinson his father, I have a census for 1841 which shows that he was a visitor and was said to be born in Cheshunt, he was living in Haggerstone West at the time of the census. his occupation is Coach Maker(I think)...

Hi

You gave her name as Mary in your first post   :-\

It seems I got a bit confused in my reply yesterday...(it's an age thing) so please forgive me.....

George Robinson was a visitor in Haggerstone West according to the 1851 Census...Aged 20, Occupation...Coach Maker. Estimated Birth year .....1831 according to the details on the census.

George William Robinson(his son) was born on 26 December 1852, they lived at 7 Margaret Street, Haggerstone East, Shoreditch. Fathers Occupation.....Cab Driver...Mothers maiden name .....Mary Freeman although according to the census records for 1851 she shows up as Mary Ann Freeman aged 15..

Please tell me this helps........

Robinson  -  hello   :)

What we are struggling with at the moment is trying to find a definite link between the George from Cheshunt who was visiting in 1851  and the George who was the father of  George William in 1852.

It does not - on the face of it - seem very likely that they are the same person, since George the visitor was a coach builder and George the father was a Cabdriver, less than 12 months later.

At the moment, also, we are also struggling to find the family  -  George, wife and 8 year old George, on the 1861 census.

Still looking   :D

Likewise - Mary Ann Freeman aged 15 in 1851;  why do you think this is George William's mother ?

At the moment it seems the only "link" between this Mary(Ann) Freeman , George Robinson her  husband, and George William the son, is the fact that in 1851 census in March 1851  -  some 21 months before the baby was born  -  they were both living in Haggerstone.

At the moment the only definite date we have is George William was born Dec 1852

His parents ages we do not have  -  they could have been 20 when he was born,  they could have been 35  ;)  We cannot assume they were the two found on the 1851  ;)

Do you see why we are struggling ?

Hi Mum44,

I take your point, I think when I initially found the details on the 1851 census I jumped to the conclusion that this had to be them due to the district and their names, in this case 2 + 2 = 5.

where do we go from here?

Regards....
Arthur.........

Hello Arthur   :)

Let's try and work from the other end, as it were.

What else do you know about George William ?

Who did he marry ?  Where and when ?  What was his occupation ?

Who were his children  -  names and dates of birth ?

Do you have him - or his wife / children - on any other census ?

Even if you only have knowledge of which ever of his children was your great grandparent  - or even your grandparent -  tell us what you know and we'll try and work back from there using information we know is accurate   :)
