What's the initial of the Registrar in the last column?

The letter looks most like that.

Just looked at the full cert - what would you say to an F  as in ....Forms of the Church of Scotland


Added - it's not a G - there's a Grant on the second entry

I think that wipes out G as an idea of the first letter..the one we are trying to decipher has no loops.

The T of Thomas is interesting though.

Well, according to the census info, James was born in Dundee circa 1840.  They seem to have finally settled in Glasgow after a few years in Ireland. Also see these threads/posts:
