Gail,
As I felt a bit guilty about throwing Lecture number 37 (b)ii at you. I popped into my local library ( Bl;yth) this morning and dug up this..
In Census 1851 Surname Indexes for Tynemouth area, I saw several ... Mary Ann Stephenson.
But the only one born anywhere near 1833 was the Mary Ann in the family below.
Census 1851 Tynemouth.. Piece 2410 Folio 355*
Head Richard, 54yrs, Occ.. Trinity Alms House Annuitant, born Tynemouth.
Wife, Jane 51, Occ. Ex-Master Mariner's wife, b.Tynemouth.
Dtr, Elizabeth, unmarried, 23, Ex-MM's dtr, b.Tynemouth
Son, William Henry, u/m, 21 Plumber & Brazier, b. Preston.
Dtr, Mary Ann, u/m, 19, ex-MM's dtr, b. Tynemouth.
Dtr, Margaret. 12, scholar, b.Tynemouth.
*My library did not have the census pages available, to see their address etc... but from the folio number ( 355) I could ascertain that the family resided in the town of Tynemouth itself, and not it's surrounding areas.
From Master Mariner sorces in the library, I could see that Richard was Master of many ships ( at least 12) in the period from late 1820s to very early 1850s.
But your Mary Ann's dad was a William... so........
.
And your Mary Ann by 1851, could have been living anywhere !
If you want details of Richard's ships, I will send them...
