Ennumerated Twice In Different Counties?
« on: Saturday 04 April 09 14:20 BST (UK) »
Rather confused here.

1871 Census - George WIMBUSH (as head of household), his wife Jane, children George and Lizzie, and their boarders William and Thomas Smith and John Parker seem to be ennumerated twice, in 2 different counties.
I think it's beyond the bounds of probability that that there are 2 George's with the same birth place/year, same wife and children and same boarders...
The neighbours are different in both locations.

Common Rd C, South Normanton, Nottinghamshire - RG10; Piece: 3467; Folio: 93; Page: 47
Alfreton Tunnel?, Alfreton, Derbyshire - RG10; Piece: 3590; Folio: 39; Page: 39

I know various people have ended up ennumerated twice when they've been counted as being at home and school, or a relative's house, or work and the like, but a whole family (including) boarders seems a bit odd.

Sorry for posting in the common room but this really does not fit into one county.

Alfreton and South Normanton are only about two miles apart. At Alfreton the family were in "House on the Alfreton Tunnel" It could be that there was an overlap between the enumeration districts and they received two householder's schedules, or they filled in the schedule early at one address and subsequently moved, before census night, to the other address and filled in another schedule.

This is what has happened. In the description of the Alfreton Enumeration District 2 the enumerator has added "Note- One house situated on the Alfreton Tunnel (Schedule 228) Probably in the Parish of South Normanton"

They would be different as the routes the two enumerators took would be different, coming from opposite directions.
