Many thanks for your infomation.   I haven't as yet tied in the Thomas Lilwall with my family, but it is a piece of useful info regarding a Grandchild, and they hadn't had any children!  Unless if course Caroline may have had a child by a previous marriage.
I have been told that the Lilwall family are recorded in the Lilwall Green  in about the 13th century, and it was named after a well called Lilla's well.   I have no evidence of this, just hearsay!
Many thanks

There is a book called Herefordshire Place Names by Bruce Copplestone-Crow which may give the derivation of the placename Lilwall

Thomas LILWALL and Caroline WATKINS said they were both 22yrs old when they married, but he was 19 and she was 18.  WATKINS was her maiden name, so she hadn't married before. It is possible that Emily was born prior to the marriage, (there is an Emily LILWALL born in the Sep qtr 1861 at Hay, which includes Clifford, but it can't be the right one because her 'parents' would be 13 and 12! :o) . If Emily was Caroline's daughter and registered under a different surname, its odd that she isn't with them in the 1881 Census, nor was she with Caroline's parents or siblings. She is not in the 1881 Census as LILWALL. I haven't seen the 1871 census entry.

This is something to think about.   1871 census thanks to ancestry.com.uk Thomas and Caroline are living on their own - no children.
Also on the 1901 census there is a George Lilwall born Hereford with his wife born Bolton Lancashire and a family of children all born in Australia.   There may be a connection.
I don't think that George is part of my family tree, likewise Thomas although part of our family were living at Clifford.

Hi LucyEllen
I don't have much info on the Lilwall side, other than John's parents as John Lilwall and Mary Baker. I have got Lucy's family back to 1740 possible marriage

nice to meet you :)

Hi

Just a thought, but thanks for the offer of photographs.   I do occasionally go to Hay as I still have relatives living there, and I don,t live all that far away.

Happy hunting
