Suz, Thanks so much for this information.  I did get some information from ancestory.com some time ago.  Who knows if it is the same Charles Horwood.  I also have  the Registration District as Barnstaple.  But I also found Aston Clinton Buckinghamshire written next to it.  As I am typing this, I realize that you have found the accurate information.  awsome!  Now, I may have found the parents of Charles Horwood:  Ann (?) b. 1820 milliner and George Horwood b. 1817 mariner.  It starts to get sketchy from here.  I will try the site that you suggested.  Thanks!!!

I'm not too sure about this Charles parents being george and Ann ??? Unless of courseyou know for certain otherwise

I'll start with the 1901 census with francis John with his parents- and then you can see how I have traced it back

Birth reg freeBMD
Francis John Horwood
Dec qtr 1881
Wycombe
3a 595

Wycombe is the district the birth was registered in  and covers quite an area of Buckinghmshire- so francis John was not necessarilyborn in  the town of Wycombe itself

you said that francis John used his middle name - there are no Francis Johns to be found on 1891/1901 census - but there is a John Horwood with parents Charles and Sarah - so I am assuming this is francis John and Family.

The best thing to do would be to order (if you can) the birth cert of francis John -which will give his parents names -and mother's maiden name. Sertificates cost £7 inc postage and can be ordered online from the GRO

Sarah wife 21 lace maker Aston Clinton

CHARLES HORWOOD brother in law U 18 groom aston Clinton Bucks

so it looks like Charles was living with his married sister (and he had a different occupation)

You can look on freebmd.org.uk t see if there is a marriage of  Simeon Hickman and Sarah Horwood - I will look for you if you don't have any luck - but it is good to try and get used to sites yourself, it's so exciting when you find one of your ancestors yourself.

Suz, I have been checking freebmd.org and have found original transcripts for the marriage of Simeon Hickman although I am still searching for Sarah Horwood.  Good site though.  Also, is there a site that explains past professions.   Anyway, Happy Easter!  Ill be researching tonight.

If you look on FreeBMD at the marriage reg for Simeon Hickman - Sept qtr 1859
Volume 3a page 499

if you click on the page number -it will show names on that page of the register

Guess whose name shows up???
