  I did find this arrival for a WALTER MCKIMMIN on the Orient in 1906

McKIMMIN         MRS.         To SYDNEY    PASSENGER    2nd CLASS
McKIMMIN    WALTER         2    To SYDNEY    PASSENGER    2nd CLASS

Electoral rolls may help here. Easy to see McKimmin as Mckinnin.

Note his marriage in the NSW index but do you know when he died?

Still no luck in finding a birth.

RObyn

Hi Robyn;
Many thanks indeed.
I know submitter of info to IGI; info is of mine, but submitted incorrectly.
Thank you for info re McKIMMIN; is there any more info on as to where from etc and age of Walter, as I cannot find on FindMyPast or Australian National Archives.
Haven't looked at Electoral Rolls as I don't as yet; subscribe to such lists.
His Death Certificate won't help, as family know precious little about Walter.
Kindest Regards;

Robert,

Walters age seems to b 2(?) so looking at the actual passenger list may be required to sort out the age.

I found the entry at
 http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/

 and a link
 mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/1909/05/153ori.htm

listed souce as
Source: State Records Authority of New South Wales: Shipping Master's Office;
CGS 13278, Passengers Arriving 1855 - 1922.

I haave no way of physically checking these altough the inforamtion on the top of the page is

ORIENT   OF GLASGOW,
H.G. STAUNTON, MASTER, BURTHEN 3434 TONS
FROM THE PORT OF BRISBANE TO SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES,
24TH MAY 1909

possible stop in Brisbane on the way to Sydney possible from Scotland etc.

It may mean writing to the office to see if they cn help or at least advise you of a researcher who will check for you if you don't live in Sydney.

also although they dont seem to appear on

http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/index/immigration.asp a number of other possibilities for research in QLD are listed in the inforamtion ast the top of the page.

I suggest registering with scotlands people and checking 1901 census ther.

HI All

Walters age seems to b 2(?) so looking at the actual passenger list may be required to sort out the age. Robyn

Birth QLD
1906/C11103 McKimmin, Walter Colin. father, Robert. mother Emma Elsner

I think age 2 is correct.

His father Robert McMimmin arrived in QLD per the CLARA on 20/1/1883.

Appears to have settled in Townville and married Emma.
All the people of that name that Ihave been able to find are from Townsville.

So, sorry to say, may be the wrong track for your McKINNIN.

McKIMMIN    WALTER         2    To SYDNEY    PASSENGER    2nd CLASS

No need to contact anyone about the original passenger list -

Link to scan of original passenger list in 1909 also shows a 2˝ yr old child with Mrs McKIMMIN. Walter is 40 years b. Leicester and Mrs McKIMMIN b. Gravesend is 25 years.
http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/1909/05/media/153ori.jpg

The copy and paste on the above quoted message, shows the 2 and symbol = ˝,  indicates the age of the child not the Walter's age.

As the ship is in Australian waters, the manifest is only for the journey Brisbane to Sydney and with some passengers noted for Fremantle and one for London. There is no indication on the manifest as to the where the original journey commenced.

I have checked another online source for the Orient arriving in Sydney 24 May 1909 and the transcription is also McKIMMIN.

Thanks for sorting that Cando.

I have checked the scots 1901 census without success.

I found birth in Ireland for a Walter Armstrong Kinning born Fermanagh 1909.

Walter's  date of birth is well after civil registraion so he should show up somewhere.

There seems to be very little anywhere for McKinnin. Even when you search the variants and then add Walter there is a minimum of results. Even looked at McGuinane etc.

Pity that there is no sugestion of parents names etc.

regards

Robyn

Had a quick look on the Irish 1911 census - only 3 McKINNIN names female - 1 County Antrim and 2 Dublin  One is mistranscribed and the other two are b. England.

In Australia I can only find a few  references to the name McKINNIN plus the marriage of a Walter to Margaret BRYANT 1942, the death of their child 1943 and death of a Margaret Ellen McKINNIN in 1945 - Ryerson Index has the death notice in SMH listed with death on 14 Aug 1945 aged 23 years.
