Hi maidmarion, Megran and all  :D,

Thanks so much for all your posts.

I think the John Maddocks living with a Sarah on the 1841 census may be my man (possibly Sarah was John's mother). The address is Ferns Yard, Mold which is the same as John and Charlotte's address on the 1851 census and the occupation of collier/coal miner matches from the 41 to the 51 census. Also, John and Charlotte's eldest daughter was a Sarah which looks promosing. I know the county of birth is out for John but I'm hoping this is just a mistake  :-\ ...

I'm liking the possible Durham / Coal Mining connection and hadn't considered this angle before. It's certainly possible and worth a closer look me thinks.

I've also got a thread for John and Charlotte on the Denbighshire board which has come up with some promosing and interesting leads (take a peek):

Thanks again for you time, help and posts - very much appreciated.

Cheers, Rowan Tree  :D
