Hi Debbie
Why do you think he returned? SUE

Perhaps I worded that a little ambiguously.
What I meant was....
What make you believe he did return?
eg   you have evidence of more children, you know he died here etc. ;D

Sue

Hi Sue,

Not sure if you saw my reply on my other post :)

John Richard Taylor definitely came out as he had 3 other children born in Oz: Beatrice, Leonard and Gladys.  Leonard was my grandfather ;D

John Richard Taylor died in 1904 at Campbelltown, NSW.

Regards,
Deb

Hi Debbie,
Yes, I see that you have given us a reason for your belief that he returned.

As you will have seen for yourself, there are a large number of John Taylor's on the immigration indexes and many did not show a middle name or initial [whether they had one or not]

He must have been relatively well off as none of his trips were assisted and according to your family's story, he paid for the 3 he made himself and another for his wife and children.

It may be worth considering that "meeting husband in Sydney " does not necessarily mean the husband was already there.

It could mean she was waiting there for his arrival whilst staying with friends or family.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for the addresses.  I can only find 19 Rose Lane in 1884 on the Sands Directory.  Can you let me know where you found the 1885 one?  The 1884 records show so many different Districts eg. Rfn, Glebe, Camp, Ntwn etc. but all have the same Page No., do you know why there are so many?  Thanks again for your help and for finding these :)

Hi,

The information comes from private research sources.

I don't know why your source for Directories is formatted the way you describe.

Hi Sue,

Sorry for the confusion.  It's just that on the Sands Directory on Ancestry it lists so many records for John Taylor for the year 1884 as follows and I was wondering why there would be so many for him.

John Taylor    District: Glebe    Page:750
John Taylor    District: Camp    Page:750
John Taylor    District: Ntwn    Page:750

John Taylor    District: Pdtn    Page:750
John Taylor    District: St P    Page:750
John Taylor    District: Pyrmont    Page:750

Debbie,
Because they are all different John Taylor's.

One of them may be yours or may be not.  It is a common name.

The ones I have given identify yours possibly because of the occupation and/or the second initial R.
