good point osprey, so if i get the two certs, will be able to tell me if he was married in 1901 but living  a apart form his poss  wife Mary (m1896)

and then he would have had to remarry to a lady called ford (claudes MMN)

will be intresting to see the answer to this one... as no mariage can be found for a Ford and Sweeting?

well, I did spot a possible Sweeting - Ford marriage - in Essex?

Florence Ford sept qtr 1903 Orsett vol 4a pg 966 with Joseph Thomas S Sweeting on the same page. Not very likely I agree, but it's never safe to assume with family history.

The other possible reason for the Ford maiden name on the birth reg is that Mary Jane Jones had been previously married and was born Ford. Go for the birth cert for Edward first and then the marriage cert if that fits with the parents on the birth cert.

By the way, I spotted a burial for a Jenkin Sweeting in 1755 in Llanmaes
