IGI submitted entries (3) have them marrying in Canonbie in 1840 - haven't found them on the BMDs for Carlisle yet $:-\$

On SP as marrying 2 Oct 1840 in Canonbie. I'll see if it has any other details.

There are a number of submitted records on the IGI for this family.

Sorry Gadget, I messed up by saying William and Jessie married in Carlisle.

It should be Canonbie. I will amend the error.

Not too important in the quest, but just for completeness, I've found Ellen (Watson) and family still in Durham in the 1881 census. She is a now a widow. $:-\$

The Ellen is a bit of a puzzle if she's not Hel(l)en $:-\$

No info on the marriage entry. Is it worth trying to work out something from the children's names - or looking at Middlebie Browns having children around 1800-1820. Not a lot on the IGI for there as I found earlier

SP has the following Bro*n* couples having children in Midlebie 1800-1820

David Brown and Agness/Nancy Irving - Gavin Mary and Nanny (1809, 1811 and 1813 - so that rules out having a Jessie at the probable time)
Walter Brown and Grace Camble (sic) - Hellen
John Brown and Marion Bell - Jane
Richard Brown and Betty Moffat - John

Thanks for those names Gadget. IGI also has an Agness with father William in 1793 (maybe a bit early $:-\$ )

Odd thing is, out of all those names the only one Jessie used for her (known) children is Grace, and perhaps Agnes (if Agnes = Nancy in this case).

[I also just realised that I made a mistake about the Wilhelmina connection. I got confused (again $:-\$ ) - it was John and Jessie (Brown) Elliot who named their daughter Wilhelmina. And William Bell married a Wilhelmina Armstrong ... got the sides of the family mixed up.]

We don't have a marriage date for John Elliot and Jessie Brown's marriage, but Elliot children from census are:
James 1831
Frances 1836
Wilhelmina 1838
[Jessie married William in 1840] - children are:
Isabella 1843
Margaret 1845
Grace 1846
Helen 1849
Agnes 1852
So many girls! .... but looking at the names perhaps a Frances might be Jessie's mother? $:-\$
