I had noticed that Swebby,i don`t know, but Thomas had daughters Mary and Louisa, when i first saw it i thought they were his daughters, till i saw their age. There seems to be several different families of Knights at Reigate, who might not be related,by the way, does anybody know what Reigate foreign is

I'm coming a bit late to this thread, by way of a "Knight Lindfield" search. I see the OP has not been around since 2010, but I hope this helps any folk following this particular path.

Thomas Knight and Elizabeth Lanaway were my 3xgreat grantparents.

I think Thomas's business was located on the north side of the High Street, next door to the Post Office. Surrey History Centre has several photos including this one https://www.surreyarchives.org.uk/collections/getrecord/SHILL_7828_2_122_66
(the 1861 census shows the Nickalls household next door to the Knights).
The building (still recognisable on Google street view) is now part of FatFace.
The larger Knight business, mentioned above, was across the road and there are many photos online.

The Maria and Louisa Knight, who were next door to Thomas in 1841, were probably his neices, daughters of Jesse Knight and Maria Lempriere.

I have never found a baptism for Thomas Knight at Lindfield (or indeed anywhere), almost certainly because this Knight family were Nonconformists.

However, his father Thomas senior (a blacksmith) is named as the master of two apprentices in 1797 and 1800 at Lindfield (see Country Apprentices 1710-1808 on Findmypast).
