Winnipeg look-up, Frederick Henry Trotter COMPLETED THANKS!
« on: Monday 22 October 07 13:59 BST (UK) »
Would it be possible for someone in Winnipeg to do a look-up for me, please?

I would like proof that this person was the brother of my husband's g-g-grandfather (I can't afford to purchase his death record).  I do have anecdotal evidence of the relationship but no proof at present.

From the Manitoba Vital Statistics website:

Frederick Henry Trotter aged 69
Died 23 December 1920 in Winnipeg

Based on the 1901 census, this might be his second marriage:

9 February 1894, Turtle Mtn, Manitoba
Frederick H. Trotter & Sarah Lyndoll

I have him in the 1901, 1906 and 1911 census.

I have his daughter, Henrietta's, marriage record to John William Chase.  (My husband's grandmother's name was Henrietta Trotter and I bought it just in case she had another marriage we didn't know about.  It turns out it was the daughter of Frederick Henry Trotter and probably her cousin.)

Based on the Manitoba Vital Statistics website and the 1911 census, his daughter Margaret married John Blanthorn Giles.

I would be most interested in seeing the obit or death record (if available for free at the library in Winnipeg) for Frederick Henry Trotter if any kind Rootschatter is willing and able to look either one up for me.

I believe he was likely the brother of Alex Trotter, who, with his cousin Beecham Trotter, ran a successful horse trading business in Brandon, Manitoba.  Alex Trotter was my husband's g-g-grandfather.

If they were brothers, they were both born in Ontario and their parents were Robert Trotter and Margaret Jane Franklin.  Based on the 1861 & 1871 census, Alex did have a brother named Frederick of the same  age.

Thank you!

Well he was definitely born Ontario...Death record may not hold any more than the cause of death anyway.  ::) Not all areas of information are always filled in....as it wasn't required to do so...also they can cross out or omit information which I thought was weird....

I can look in the two papers and hopefully if vital stats got the date right, there is something to find...
I might get down there this week...anything else that you need while I am at it?

Just a warning my last visit looking for an obit garnerred zero results...

Hi, J.J.!

Thank you for your reply and kind offer!

Hmmm, I will give the "anything else" a bit of thought; I'll reply ASAP.

I'm hoping he would have an obit, especially if he was the brother and cousin of two prominent citizens of Brandon.  Of course, there are no guarantees.  I hope the date of death is correct!  Yikes!

Regards,
Josephine

Date of death was good!

First paper I looked through, the Wpg. Tribune had just a blurb that he lived at 867 William Ave. and to be buried at Brookside...

next the Free Press had a good size piece.. at least but it mostly credited him with having being an orangeman for 50 years, ( oh, good thing hubby didn't know that he might not have let me get it for you  :-X...just kidding)
It must have been phone in
"Yes, S.H. Trotter.?..sure, got it... "S" as in sin?" ...also it says he lived at 845 William  ::) had died the previous night (wrong)...( likely was phoned in too late & never made the paper on time...It is a bit of a mess, but was happy to see he came from Kingston in the early 80's...but then only mention of a daughter-in-law with whom he lived...Mrs. Fred Trotter.

But lo and behold, I asked if there were any Brandon papers available and he said yes...so from the Brandon Sun you will be happy to know that he is brother to Alexander ( also mentions brothers Charles & Edward back in Ontario!) and cousin to Beecham...also others mentioned so perhaps some extra info...

Anyhoo...please p.m. me your email address again....& I'll send you the images, as it wasn't busy today so was able to get onto the computers and scan them all for you...
