Electoral Roll Look Up Request

Being new to this chat page, I wonder if it is possible for a look up in 914, 1919 and 1936 Australian Electoral Rolls for JESSE CARLTON who is listed in 1914 and 1919 in Victoria, Fawkner district and in 1936 in Victoria, Batman district.

Family tales say he and his wife went to Australia after 1911 and later came back home on a visit to England and on the voyage back to Australia his wife MARY EMMA CARLTON died.

I have never been able to find any confirmation about this and would love to know. I have two napkin rings which were brought back as a present for Emma's father, my grandfather and I still have them.

MARY EMMA was my great aunt and both she and JESSE were born in Milnrow, Rochdale, Lancashire in 1874 and 1876

They both lived at 394 Montague Street, Albert Park in 1914 and 1919.  Jesse's occupation was fitter and Mary Emma was HD.  In 1931 Jesse is the only CARLTON living at 22 Collins Street, Northcote, Vic.  Occupation now agent.


Death is of their son.

That was quick!
Both the Carlton's you found are the ones I am looking for and I can't thank you enough for that information.
It puts a closure on that part of the family and disproves a family story of a death at sea.

They did have a son James born in 1901 and was still alive in 1911 but he may have died as I have never heard any mention of him.

They are both on a shipping passenger list departing London for Melbourne in 1923. J. Carlton b.c1877 and M E Carlton b. c1875.  I am unable to view any further information.

Thank you for the welcome Kris and for the invaluable information you sent.

Wonderful to have it and confirmation that mum was nearly correct when she said that Mary Emma was taken ill on the way back home and died, but she had always thought it was at sea.

The address of 122 Newhey Road, Milnrow means that they were staying with her married sister whilst visiting, so another little snippet to add to the story.

How I wish I had asked on this chat room long ago!

Thanks once again to Cando and Kris for solving my long standing family puzzle.

Apologies to Cando as in my excitement I had missed seeing the death for their son James.
Now of course I am wondering if James ever married and had a family! As usual an answer to one question generates another question.

You are very welcome - Glad to help. When I looked at the two different addresses which is definitely as they are written, I knew they were the same address wrongly written. By what you had said I knew Milnrow was correct, street I had no idea.
