Jacksdale Memorial Soldier Statue Returns

Dear All

Just to let those who may have relatives named on the Jacksdale, Notts village War Memorial that a very special day is planned on Sunday 14th June 2009.

This is to celebrate the return of the statue of a soldier which used to grace the top of the memorial.  A new soldier is currently being carved in Portland Stone and on Sunday 14th June 2009 we will be celebrating his return.

As well as a parade, concert, craft fair, and concert, there will also be a 1940s Dance and display of photographs and information about those named on the memorial.

Just to remind you all of this special day planned for Sunday 14th June 2009 to celebrate the return of the Soldier statue to Jacksdale & Westwood

10.30 am Heritage Display - Oakes Suite Jacksdale Miner's Welfare - Jacksdale Heritage focusing on the Servicemen named on the Jacksdale Memorial - also Portland Path Project/Notts County Council - display about recent archeaological dig - old photos of the area etc

10.30 WW2 Craft Fair - Jacksdale Community Centre

1.45pm Military Parade - Private Derby the regimental mascot of the Mercian Regiment with his ram major and ram orderly.  Beeston District Pipe Band.

2pm Service of rededication at the Memorial - Pye Hill Male Voice Choir.  Sherwood Clarinet Society.

3.15pm Childrens Picnic

4pm Childrens Concert - Local chilclren and students  entertain.  M.C. Pye Hill male Voice Choir

6pm  Two singers from 'The Spitfires'

FIELD EVENTS - WW2 British Airbourne Society - plus K2 Vintage Ambulance
Soft play and bouncy castle.

7.30pm  Forties dance - jazz band and WW2 entertainer
