Scraborough Trade Lookup?
« on: Sunday 19 April 09 09:02 BST (UK) »
Would anyone be prepared to do look-up in a Scarborough Trade directory C 1870, please?
 Crossley's Hotel, Market Street, Scarborough.

My relation died there on Christmas Eve 1874 and I wondered what sort of establishment it might be - dosshouse or Grand!

In the 1920's Street Directory, Crossleys Hotel is still in existence, located at 10 Market Street Scarborough, being run by a John Pitt.

If you find the link to the "Blue Bell Pub, Scarborough" post on this site, you can see the area it was in, my own guess would be it would have been above a doss house at the time you are saying but probally not too Grand, a run of the mill guest house of the day.

Hope this is of some help. :)
