Just thought I'd let you know that there is an Annie Bohannan (75) recorded in the 1901 Irish census in Caul,  Kilglass south (DED),  Roscommon which is not far from Bumlin, Strokestown. Also her son michael (33) is recorded with her. I too am a Buchanan but have found my relatives in the recent past have spelt their surname as Buchanan and Bohannan in parish registers. Hope this is of some help to you.

Many thanks to Bohanna Clann for this valuable lead.  I'll get on to it right away. 
In the meantime I have made some progress with excellent help from Kliff confirming the barracks at Mont Pleasant.  My James Buchannan  son of Thomas married Anne Powell , daughter of Patrick Powell (possibly of  Ballanagare) on 12 Sep 1853 somewhere in Roscommon and James was still at Mount Pleasant 16 months later despite the force relocation policy.  We are also looking at a Thomas Buchanan in Griffith's Valuation  who is the lessor of a barracks in Cavan.
